No, it's not quite a "Willie O'Dea moment" with our local elected representatives........but the headline grabbed your attention nonetheless!
Our thanks to Arklow Municipal District, our elected representatives, District Administrator Linda McDonald and the staff at AMD, as Kansas city based band The Elders were afforded a civic reception last evening.
The Elders are fronted by our own Ian Byrne (son of the late Tommy and May Byrne), and for many years now he and his band have returned to Irish shores, bringing with them a massive entourage of American visitors. This year proved no different, with a record number of visitors coming to Arklow (and maybe Avoca!).
The bond that has been created over the years with many of our US based visitors cannot be overstated - and they keep coming back; Arklow now their second home!
To recognise and acknowledge this, Arklow Municipal District hosted a civic reception on Tuesday evening, where all members of The Elders received a bespoke gift, created by local artist Brendan Tracey.
The band then performed a song from their new album "True", the charming "Going To Arklow" - a song which has become massively popular amongst The Elders' fanbase stateside.
Later in the evening, over at Arklow Bay Hotel, the band hit the stage to do what they do best, with AMA and Nolan House Rathdrum the beneficiaries of all monies raised.
Our thanks at AMA to The Elders and their many 'Elderberries' who travelled many miles to come to Arklow. See y'all next year!
Keep up to date with The Elders at www.eldersmusic.com
